Abstract

This article provides an overview of new observer design methods for a class of linear time varying systems. The design is based on the idea that only unstable or slowly decaying modes of the observed system are modified in the estimation error dynamics. The necessary theoretical foundations of the so-called Lyapunov and dichotomy spectrum are explained and supported by examples. The properties of the resulting observers are shown in theory and simulation.
