Abstract

An experimental study on the influence of a centric prestressing on the shear capacity of RC-beams without shear reinforcement was conducted. The experimental program consisted of twelve simply supported and cantilever prestressed beams under uniformly distributed loads. The results have shown significant differences of the influence of the prestress force on the shear capacity with regards to different M/V-combinations in the shear span. The increase of shear capacity due to prestressing is for the cantilever beams considerably smaller than that of the simply supported beams. In addition, a nonlinear FE-simulation was performed. Based on the experimental results and the conducted parametric FE study the enhancement factor of the shear capacity with respect to the centric prestress can be quantified for different static systems and loading configurations.
