Abstract
In this study, a composite media formed by the combination of a metallic resonator and a dielectric material is mathematically analyzed by means of its effective magnetic and electric response. It is demonstrated that a resonator, in the form of a ring with a wire strip, embedded in SiO2 exhibits artificial magnetic and electric effects. Once the dimensions of the resonator are smaller than the excitation wavelength, the overall response becomes artificially homogeneous. The negative magnetic resonance is coincided with the broadband negative electric response to obtain negative-index material (NIM) whose effective refractive index is negative. The transmission characteristics of the complex medium are verified to be multiband for the whole infrared (IR) range where doublenegative (DN-NIM) and single-negative (SN-NIM) features observed via particular simulations.
