Abstract
To increase the competitiveness of biomass fired stoves against solar thermal heating or heat pumps as residential heating system for passive houses, a new low-cost stove with low emissions and high efficiency is being developed. An innovative fuel feeding system and burner design lead to a very simple setup and hence a low price of the stove. The high efficiency and low emission are achieved by an optimization of the stove by means of CFD simulations and systematic test runs. To increase the application range of the new stove concept, three different versions are developed: a grid independent pellet stove, a low electricity demanding pellet stove with lowest emissions and a combined wood log/pellet stove, which combines the advantages of low fuel costs with low pollutant emissions. In this publication, the concept of the new technology is described and first simulation and test run results are presented, showing the ability of the new stove technology to fulfill strict emission limits despite its low costs.
