Abstract
During the early phase of factory planning production engineers face the challenge that all dimensioning work is influenced by uncertainties. The required information regarding product, processes, resources and production itself is rarely available in this early phase. This paper proposes an instrument to quantify uncertainties within the early phase of factory planning. It was developed in collaboration with the contract manufacturer Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik AG & CoKG. This instrument should in particular support decisions regarding conversion options. This paper contributes to the development of instruments for the dimensioning of factories, a topic of research within Industry 4.0.
