Abstract

In this paper we describe and show the results of a novel activity on the validation of numerical codes for the low frequency electromagnetic analysis of ITER components. The aim of the activity is to propose a set of problems focused on induced currents in nonlinear materials and on hysteresis behaviours. For this purpose, already existing benchmark problems are considered and new ones are developed for specific investigations. The TEAM (Testing Electromagnetic Analysis Methods) problems 10 and 32 from the COMPUMAG society have been tested, together with an ad hoc problem proposed by one of the authors. Four computer codes (EleFAnT3D, ANSYS EMAG, ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL Multiphysics) have been used and results obtained have been compared. Globally a good agreement among results obtained with the numerical codes and also with experimental data has been found, but some small deviation and peculiarities have been observed which are discussed in the paper.
