Abstract
Based on maps, which are derived from Airborne-Laserscanning (ALS) elevation data, a tour-planning software for winter sports has been realized. This software will be published in cooperation with the Styrian Avalanche Warning Service (Lawinenwarndienst Steiermark). It allows the user to derive information from topographic basemaps, orthophotos, slope maps, aspect maps and vegeta-
tion maps. The individual components of the software are explained in terms of functionality. In particular it shows the importance of the topography for the assessment of avalanche danger. A selected group of users could try out the software SNOWMAPS for the province of Styria already in winter 2015.
