Abstract

Stability studies have long been an important topic in network management and a guarantee for the safe operation of the network. A verification of stability is defined by Austrian grid code (TOR) and includes the fault ride through capability of power generation plants. In the present work different methods for the investigation of the given requirements are analysed. A total of
three different methods for generating a voltage dip are tested, which greatly influence the FRT ability of the unit. The method of an additional load is used, which generates a voltage drop by connecting a purely resistive, purely inductive or mixed behaviour. Another method that is used is the simulation of a voltage drop using the equivalent circuit of the network using an
impedance and a voltage source. The voltage drop is generated by means of a controllable voltage source. Besides also the main parameters influencing the FRT ability of a synchronous hydro unit are identified and investigated in detail.
