Abstract
A major goal in the 21st century is to improve electrical energy storage systems, currently this concerns mainly Li-ion batteries. During development of Li-ion batteries, it is of particular interest to be able to accurately characterize the aging behavior of a prototype at an early stage. Recent research has revealed a new, complementary and promising approach to this task. It is an extension of the proven differential capacity and voltage analysis – the so-called ∆DCA and ∆DVA methods. In this paper, the accuracy requirements for the current source/sink, measurement equipment, and environmental control are examined in detail. Even though no conclusive statement could be made about the required precision/accuracy for the test equipment, methods for controlling and optimizing the achieved uncertainty are shown.
