Jointless transition structures for integral bridges made of UHPFRC. No matter if erection of new integral bridges or conversion of conventional bridges, the number of integral bridges is steadily rising due to new guidelines for design and low maintenance costs. However, this does not only affect short frame bridges, also the number of long integral bridges larger than 60 m is growing significantly. Especially in case of long integral bridges, increased attention must be paid to the transition area between the bridge and the road. For this purpose, a new jointless transition structure made of UHPFRC was developed at the Institute of Structural Concrete at Graz University of Technology. This jointless transition structure meets all the requirements for transition structures of integral bridges. This new solution has already been used for two integral bridges in Austria with lengths of the superstructure of 90 m (Fehring) and 103 m (Trautenfels). First results from the installed monitoring system at the bridge in Fehring impressively confirm the functionality of the new construction.
