Abstract

Hybrid joints of polycarbonate (PC) and aluminum alloy 6061-T6 were produced by injection overmolding
and the effects of laser texturing of metal on the polymer-metal interfacial strength were evaluated. High speed laser
texturing resulted in a “trench-like” morphology, which proved to be poorly efficient for polymer-metal adhesion. On
the other hand, low speed laser texturing produced a "mountain range-like" morphology, with a larger surface area for
mechanical interlocking, leading to a hybrid joint with shear strength of 6.3 MPa
