Abstract

This paper introduces the LargeTESModelingToolkit, anovel Modelica library for modeling and simulation oflarge-scale pit and tank thermal energy storage. This firstcomprehensive Modelica library in the field provides theflexibility and tools needed to develop new storage mod-els tailored to the desired application. It also offers re-searchers and industrial users pre-built storage models forsimulation studies to answer the relevant questions for anoptimized design at storage and system level. In this paper, we present the library’s key features andstructure and introduce the underlying physical and math-ematical foundations and modeling approaches. More-over, we discuss the validation of the models, present thefirst results, and show the library’s applicability using anexemplary simulation case study.
