    Abstract

A literature review on the acoustic characteristics of automotive turbochargers was presented. Generally covering the history of acoustic experimental investigations and of modeling approaches of both compressor and turbine sides of turbochargers. Some of the studies divided the acoustic behavior of the turbocharger compressor into two main categories&58; passive for low frequencies and active for high frequencies. The compressor internal complex geometries had several studies on how to acoustically represent them. While some other studies were concerned about the rotor losses types and its influence on the acoustic performance of the turbocharger unit.
