Abstract
The heavy ion synchrotron SIS100, the core component of the FAIR project, uses superconducting magnets. For technical and economical reasons these magnets are reduced as much as possible in size. This necessitated that reliable field descriptions for its elliptic aperture were available. Similarly the description had to be adapted to the curvature of the magnets.
In this paper we present the theoretical background for describing the fields using multipoles next to the theoretical evaluations required for the measurement system.
