Abstract

UHPC-filled steel tubes / hollow precast concrete columns are most advantageous for the columns of a high-rise building or bridge piers subjected to the extensive compressive loading. This paper presents the development of various coarse aggregate UHPCs with different binders for the core of these composite columns. The use of the most compatible materials, the optimizations of binders and aggregates resulted in self-compacting UHPCs with maximum grain sizes of 12 mm or 16 mm possessing a good slump-flow of 75-80 cm, an excellent segregation resistance, a compressive strength of 180-190 MPa and a low / no autogenous shrinkage of -0.300‰ to +0.025‰.
