Abstract

Solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOEC) are a highly efficient technology for producing green hydrogen using only steam and electricity from renewable sources. However, different applications and associated operating conditions can lead to performance deterioration and microstructural degradation of SOECs. In this context, different factors such as the input gas composition, the operating temperature, or the applied current profile can have significantly different effects on the performance and long-term stability of the technology. In this study, various industrially relevant operating conditions were applied to a ten-cell stack to determine their impact on stack performance and electrode processes as well as to provide a solid basis for optimized operation.
