Abstract

For many years, lean production has been a crucial basis for production systems in manufacturing industries. Agile production, also called agility, is a concept, which was discussed many years ago, but there are only a few successful implementations described in literature. Due to an increasingly volatile world, agile production is again becoming increasingly relevant. The main question is how agile production fits with lean production. This paper shows an overview of existing perspectives and illustrates that lean production has to be reinforced using agility aspects.
