Requirements for grid supporting inverter in relation with frequency and voltage support

Abstract

This paper investigates the behavior of a medium-voltage
grid with a grid supporting inverter and ZIP load during
frequency as well as grid voltage fluctuations. During the
test cases the droop parameters, short circuit capacity of
the grid, parameters of the load and length of the cable
between the supplying grid and inverter-load system are
varied. The stable zones and limits are determined
respectively for the droop parameters. This allows the
selection of a stable point while enabling the inverter to
support the grid by compensating for grid frequency and
grid voltage changes. Dependencies between the droop
parameters and decreasing stability zones with increasing
length of the cable or decreasing short circuit ratio from
the grid were established. Modification of load
characteristics caused no significant effects.
