Abstract

Comparison of results from full scale fire tests, CFD simulations and empirical approaches from literature. The IVT Koralmtunnel tests served as base for the validation of CFD models provides by Fire Dynamic Simulator 6.7. Temperature stratification downstream served as an indicator for the reating of CFD results. Since these results were rated as accurate enough, these models were applied on the assessment of the backlayering. This assessment finally led to a good accordance between the experimental data and CFD results. Approaches taken from literature had to be compared under consideration of their specific restrictions respectively their validity. In general they showed a different behaviour for small fires and for big fires.
