    Abstract

Inclinometers are widely used for measuring horizontal displacements in ground as well as in structural elements. In particular the observation of natural creeping slopes and temporary excavations demands inclinometer measurements of high accuracy. It is therefore essential to assess the reliability of inclinometer measurements in a systematic way. This contribution deals with the examination and determination of accuracy and precision concerning inclinometer measurements. Vertical as well as inclined tubes are investigated and theoretical relations are described mathematically.
