Abstract

Advanced experimental techniques and modelling are necessary to predict the evolution of
existing structures and design more sustainable materials and structural systems. An Extended Round Robin Testing program (RRT+) has been designed within COST Action TU 1404 “Towards the next generation of standards for the service life of cement-based materials and structures”. The RRT+ program provides a platform to compare non-standardized techniques. The results presented in this paper are related to “Volume stability” with a focus on autogenous deformation. 11 laboratories were actually involved in the testing program. They used different measuring techniques but the preliminary results showed good overall agreement. A deeper analysis requires data related to hydration and hardening kinetics. The tested concrete mixtures showed relatively low shrinkage magnitudes. The evolution of autogenous deformations is discussed taking into account their stress-inducing potential.
