Abstract

Tunable coherent radiation between 90 and 110 nm is generated by frequency tripling the output of a pulsed UV laser. The 3rd harmonic XUV beam is separated from the high power fundamental UV laser radiation and focussed into an atomic Xe beam. Single‐photon transitions from the ground state of Xe to the autoionizing Rydberg series are observed by collecting and detecting Xe ions in a time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer. An electric field is applied in the interaction region and the line intensities, shifts, and splittings have been investigated for 0
