Research project:
Facade and Construction Technologies
This project is in the course of overall Research topic:
Sustainable Living in High Density Structures
Architectural relevance and ecology design synergy:
Energy concepts and facade technologies have an essential effect on facade structures and therefore also upon the external appearance of buildings. The developing of new facade concepts and energy solutions is of great importance for the entire design of a building.
The substantial questions are:
Which existing knowledge and which new technologies must be combined and modified to create the optimal system in respect of natural ventilation, feasibility, building energy consumption and sustainability?
What is their impact in terms of architectural design? Which design structures regarding to material, facade structures (arrangement, formation, frequencies of openings and facade-elements) are possible to realize and which statement they can have?
The central aim of the research project is the reduction or the complete abandonment of the use of climate technology in the dense housing structures in Hong Kong or mainland China. The key activities lie in the field of building structures and construction technologies, e.g. the configuration of floor plans. Furthermore, the aim of the research is to achive strategies for new facade structures and elements.
The contents of the conceptual results encompass new developments and the creation of prototypes. The aims can entail concepts of the implementation or constructional realization of new projects, configuration of existing buildings or the modification of offices in the utilization of residential high-risers.
Results:
The main objective is to produce a prototype of facade elements or building design concepts for which patent applications need to be filed and granted in advance. The results of such concepts will be published in books and international journals.
Objective:
The objective in the long term is the expansion of scientific and business cooperation and the exchange of specialist expertise between Chinese and European Institutes, Universities and Companies.
We expect a symbiosis with Chinese companies on the basis of various foundations of knowledge, different experiences and expertise. This interaction of know-how with Institute for Architecture Technology (IAT), TU Graz and School of architecture, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Hong Kong Housing Authority will build a positive relationship involving expert knowledge exchange and lead to completely new results in the development of building structures.
The project is sponsored by EURASIA PACIFIC UNINET Austria.
