Abstract
Not only railway operation and environmental pollution, but also mechanical
impacts such as tamping contribute to the degradation of railway track ballast
layers. An extensive literature review is carried out in this study investigating to
what extent mechanical impacts contribute to ballast pollution. The aim is to
derive further research requirements should this prove to be necessary.
