Abstract

The reaction of Cd(ClO4)2·6H2O with the tetradentate tripod amine BPQA (bis(2-methylpyridyl)-2-methylquinolyl-amine) afforded the mononuclear complex [Cd(BPQA)(N3)2] (1), whereas its reaction with the bidentate amines Et2Meen (N,N-diethyl-N′-methylethylenediamine) and DMP (2-(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-ylmethyl)pyridine) resulted in the formation of different bridged-azido polymeric 2D- and 1D-chains [Cd2(Et2Meen)2(μ1,1-N3)2(μ1,3-N3)2]n (2) and [Cd(DMP)(μ1,1-N3)2]n (3), respectively. The reaction of Zn(ClO4)2·6H2O with DMP led to the isolation of the doubly bridged EO-azido dinuclear complex [Zn(DMP)(μ1,1-N3)(N3)]2 (4). The four complexes have been structurally characterized by elemental microanalyses, IR spectroscopy and by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The luminescence properties of [Cd(BPQA)(N3)] (1) complex and its ligand, BPQA were investigated, where the complex revealed strong fluorescence enhancement
