Abstract

One of the most effective ways to teach mathematics in primary schools are handson activities. Students need to explore and to experience the teaching content with materials and well-constructed tasks in order to develop mathematical competences. This is of particular importance in the development of number concepts and spatial ability.
We started a research project to invent interactive multimodal learning environments based on the new curriculum, which is centered on four central subject
concepts. Our goal is to create demanding and empirically proven tasks for each
concept.
We will give a short overview of our project and materials so far and an outlook
on our future plans.
