Description

The interest in hydrophobic coatings for all types of surfaces has increased in recent decades, this is due to their self cleaning or anti fogging
applications This work discusses the results of the influence of deposit conditions on the hydrophobic properties of ZnO thin films deposited
by the Sol Gel method For this, the molarity of the precursor solution and the annealing temperature were varied The hydrophobic properties
of the thin films of ZnO were favored in the samples deposited at lower molarities 0 25 M), presenting hydrophobic water contact angles This is
due to the decrease in the effective surface area, which is shown by means of a lower roughness and smaller grain size, compared to the samples
prepared with a higher molarity, which means that the surface presents hydrophobicity in the Wenzel state From the UV Visible spectroscopy
analysis, it was observed that the transmittance of thin films in the visible spectrum was greater than 90 in most cases, which favors their use in
hydrophobic smart windows Afterwards, a Life Cycle Assessment ( LCA)( 2006 was carried out with the glass envelope of the Obispado
tower as a Functional Unit Considering a lifetime for the smart windows of 25 years it was found that their overall environmental impact is
greater throughout all evaluated impact categories.
