Description
In this contribution, we aim to present of a variety of α,ω-bisacylpolysilanes[1], α,ω-bisacyldigermanes[2] and trisacylphosphine oxides. In addition, we show a comparison and evaluation of the different compound classes as potential type I photoinitiators. The Si-compounds were synthesized either via a substitution reaction of bromine on silica gel[3] or by the use of silver salts[4] or by applying the well-known Corey-Seebach approach[5]. This method was also used for the synthesis of the Ge-compounds. The P-compounds were obtained by the reaction of the sodium tert-butylate aggregate NaPH2(NaOtBu)x[6] either directly with 3 equivalents of the corresponding acid chlorides or by prior isolation of the intermediate sodium-bis(mesitoyl)phosphide[7] (MesBAP-Na) and further oxidation with anhydrous peroxides. The evaluation of the photochemistry was carried out using different methods, e.g. CIDNP measurements and photobleaching experiments, and revealed low to high activities and potential uses as photoinitiators depending on the compound class. The Norrish-type pathways and the advantages and drawbacks of each compound class based on the different centre elements (Si, Ge, P) will be discussed.
