The main fields of activity in steel-structure research comprise the computer oriented (CIM-based) design of steel structures, the fatigue design of bridges and its components, the stability of thin-walled cylindrical structures and the limit load design of beam-columns of steel. This research field is closely connected with the development of amended design rules for the new european Steel design Standard EUROCODE 3.
A special field of research deals with the structural design of silos, tanks and pipelines, particularly in connection with aspects of shell stability.
