Project Details

Description

The microstructure of a hard metal is determined by WC grains and the binder phase (Co, Ni or Fe). The binder phase is accountable for the toughness of the hard metal. Therefore carbid precipitates are in the binder phase, for instance Cr2C3 , VC or other, because of their brittleness, undesired. By means of energy filtering TEM (EFTEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (PEELS) and energy dipersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) these precipitates are to be investigated, specified and characterized.
