nBrake - Innovative braking system for rail vehicles

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

In this research project, these essential aspects are addressed using the example of an innovative braking system for rail vehicles. On the one hand, by exploiting a gear stage, brake discs directly mounted on the unsprung railway axle can be avoided, thus significantly reducing damage to the wheel, track and superstructure and therefore reducing life cycle costs. On the other hand, by lower braking forces, lightweight brake components can be realized, which additionally contribute to a weight reduction. Besides these positive effects, the significantly increased sliding speeds at the friction partners due to the gear ratio represent a challenge that is being scientifically investigated in the course of the project.
