Description
MAKING PAPER PRODUCTION MORE SUSTAINABLE
Paper drying is one of the most energy-intensive processes in the paper industry. Pressurized steam is used to heat drying cylinders. In a cascade, the moisture content of the paper sheet is reduced from approximately 50% to 6%. Many paper mills rely on fossil fuels to generate the necessary steam. By either improving the efficiency of the drying process (e.g. heat transfer) or by using alternative drying methods such as electric heating or ultrasonic water vaporization, it is possible to reduce the overall energy impact of the drying process.
In addition to technical feasibility, a realistic business case is required.
