Description

Up-conversion (UC) of photons from the near infrared region to the visible range of the solar spectrum holds great promise for improving the efficiency of solar cells, because semiconductors (organic and inorganic) for photovoltaic applicatons show significantly higher absorption in the visible region. The concept of so called sensitized triplet-triplet annihilation allows reaching high upconversion efficiencies. Such high efficiencies can only be realized in solutions of the dyes.
