Real-Time Searching Coprocessor Architectures

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Experiments in modern physics deliver huge amounts of data with very high requirements of data acquisition, buffering, sorting and storing. Within these requirements this project dealt with a 100 Mbyte/sec dual-port memory that allowed not only buffering but also rearranging of data and repetition of transfers in case of errors. The requirements can only be fulfilled with specialized searching processors implemented in hardware, in our case in field programmable gate-arrays (FPGAs). The algorithm for storing information about data blocks is very critical in order to guarantee storing, searching and reading of data-blocks within the timing requirements.
