Abstract
The rapid escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of efficient ventilation systems in reducing the risk of airborne transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This study evaluates the energetic performance and viral transmission characteristics of a low-cost mechanical extract ventilation system in comparison to alternative strategies in an educational context. The results show
a significant improvement in indoor air quality combined with energy savings relative to natural ventilation strategies.
