Abstract

The "flipped" classroom (reverse instruction) is an educational strategy where theoretical background is learned by students outside of the classroom. The classroom learning deals mainly with practical application of the theoretical background. The strategy is getting popularity as it improves learning outcomes in some training areas. In this paper, we describe an e-learning scenario that utilizes the flipped approach. Basically, the scenario extends the well-known learning-by-doing scenario where the teacher defines a particular problem to be solved and presents the technology that must be used to solve the problem. In the case of the flipped e-learning scenario, the teacher just defines the problem to be solved, and leave it to students to find and comprehend the relevant technology that can be used in this particular case.
The students are supposed to describe the technology on the level sufficient to comprehend the technology, and further report the technology usage for solving the previously defined problem.
