Abstract

Architects are more and more faced with an increasingly growing complexity of
thematically different challenges. This includes both changing climatically, culturally,
technologically and economically conditions, which in practice lead to a confrontation
with various associated fields. Those interdisciplinary approaches require as well as
the ‘digital turn’ new accessibilities to information, new forms of communication and
a common type of documentation or archiving. How could technologies support us in
these challenges? All information is already there, it only must be made visible! With
the meaning of Norberg-Schulz (1970) there is only one possibility of a reasonable
objectively description of place: Its information can be effected just by the place itself.
This further raises the question, how to make information of place visible by using
new technologies? This paper will discuss a development project of software ‘Room
Book 2.0’ that attempts to handle difficulties in dealing with revivalism and
urbanization. Looking for new methods we have to ask especially for future needs
and risks by digitizing information. What are the different professionally interests and
how could we improve the quality of information? Over the last two years we
developed several prototypical applications as a proof of concept. These case studies
from totally new hardware and software bundles as far as adapting existing “tech-
gadgets” had one common target: Keep information in its place.
