Abstract

The invention relates to a method and device for determining the velocity of a mass flow consisting of powdery/granular bulk material inside a conduit (1). According to the invention, periodic disturbances are introduced into the mass flow at at least one first location in the conduit ( disturbance location ) (SST). These disturbances influence the electrical properties of the mass flow. An electrode means (ME1... ME6) serves to generate an electric current through the mass flow at at least one second location ( measuring location ) (MST) located downstream from the disturbance location. An evaluation circuit (REV) serves to measure temporarily occurring changes in the current that result due to disturbances introduced upstream. The velocity of the mass flow is determined based on the temporal dependency between measured changes and the introduced disturbance.
