Organisation profile

Activities of the Institute of Logistics Engineering contain the basic engineering design education of students with computer-aided technologies including industry case studies and research in planning and simulation of logistic systems. Material flow processes and storage systems in industry and service facilities are investigated by discrete event simulation and analytical methods. Engineering design of material handling equipment includes 3D-CAD product development, dynamic multibody systems design and experimental functional and fatigue design investigations. Detailed engineering solutions in automation and drive technologies contain the design of electromechanical drive concepts and their elements for power transmission. Related fields of communication technologies, identification systems and digital controls are also treated (field bus systems, programmable language controllers and digital signal processing equipment). Engineering design with industrial partners is based on CAE-methods and reaches from the conceptual design phase to building original size prototypes with experimental evaluation of function and fatigue performance. Low cost, ease of assembly, optimized acoustics and lightweight structural design investigations by dynamic multibody systems simulation are further design objectives. The area of logistic systems analysis of production and warehousing system uses simulation software tools and analytical methods to calculate buffer zones, throughput, flow time and capacity utilization in facility design, specialization and make or buy analysis scenarios.
