CT03_LEC - The 3+ Engine - Ultra-robust High Load Engine

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The engine concepts of the future will have higher peak firing pressures and increasing indicated mean effective pressures, which will result in even higher thermal and mechanical loads on core engine components. This project aims to validate an integrated approach to the layout of these highly stressed engine components. Experimental investigations on a single cylinder engine (SCE) and coupled CFD-FE simulations will be conducted to optimize pistons and other combustion-related components. With the new 3+ basic engine unit, where 3+ means more than 30 bar brake mean effective pressure, more than 300 bar peak firing pressure etc., combustion concepts are developed in the corresponding COMET project AT02, so that the advantages achieved can be used in real operation.
