FWF- Komuna - Komuna Maro

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Komuna Maro (Common Sea in Esperanto) is conceived as an experimental research project focusing on heterogeneous networks of marine communities, technologies, and infrastructures of the North Adriatic. While the Adriatic Sea has served for centuries as both an element of cohesion and an object of territorial disputes between coastal cities and states (particularly on its northern shores), diverse maritime practices have simultaneously enmeshed that space with global migration routes and geostrategic calculations. By exposing unspoken power relations, generating novel “cartographies,” and offering speculative counternarratives for the North Adriatic, Komuna Maro strives to foster durable alliances in the ongoing struggles for more just, inclusive, and sustainable forms of harnessing marine commons.
