ZAM - Centre for Active Mobility

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The Centre for Active Mobility, which is jointly supported by KFU (Institute for Systems Science, Innovation and Sustainability Research; Institute for Human Movement, Sport and Health; Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change) and TU Graz (Institute for Urban Planning), sees itself as a broad-based, inter- and transdisciplinary hub for research and knowledge transfer. The municipal council's decision on Chapter 1 of the Cycling Initiative and the entry into force of the Climate Protection Plan have led to a reorientation of the organisation and design of urban space in Graz. With the prioritisation of active mobility over passive mobility, effects are not only to be expected on car traffic, but also on public transport. Questions of intermodality and also the meeting of the different types of mobility will be dealt with more strongly than before and will have to find expression in the design. This change must be accompanied and positively shaped by increased research activities. Against this background, the activities of the centre follow the goal of supporting the transport transition towards more active mobility through independent research activities, expert knowledge and stakeholder exchange. Active mobility is not an end in itself, but a way to achieve essential social goals: more urban quality of life, more health, more resource efficiency. It should always be seen as part of intermodal mobility solutions.
