Abstract
A modular multilevel DC-DC converter is an essential component for interconnecting high voltage DC networks of different voltage levels. Such innovative converters offer several advantages, like low power losses and energy
efficiency, as well as the prevention of DC fault propagation. A general overview of a small scale prototype (800 V/500 V, 50 kW) of such an innovative hybrid cascaded series two-level converter that is realized with 62mm C-Series IGBT power modules and a stack of cascaded sub-modules (SM) used to control the IGBTs and to monitor the converters functionality is shown.
