Abstract

With the aim of optimising the flow velocity distribution in the slot of a pool and slot Fishway for fish passage, hydraulic investigations were carried out with different bed roughness and variable thickness of the slot-wall. The results showed that the bed roughness has no influence on the flow velocity distribution in the slot. Even near the bottom, no reduction in flow velocity could be deduced when the roughness was increased. Also, the arrangement of boulders and the change in wall thickness had no significant influence on the flow velocity distribution in the basin transition. Reduced flow velocities close to the bottom can only be explained by one-dimensional measurements behind obstacles and indicate increased turbulence in these areas.
