The Institute of Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry consists of 6 members and covers a wide range of expertise in the field of remote sensing and photogrammetry. The work of the Institute is focused on the application of various remote sensing techniques in the field of geosciences. This includes airborne (laserscanner data, airborne scanner data and aerial photos) and space borne remotely sensed data. Major applications are high mountain cartography, hazard mapping, glacier monitoring and forest monitoring. Another working area of the Institute is the application of close-range photogrammetry and terrestrial laser scanning in the field of documentation of cultural heritage, engineering projects and monitoring of glaciers, rock glaciers and landslides. Many projects are carried out in close co-operation with national and international organizations.
Teaching comprises various courses of under-graduate and graduate level within Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Science, and the university course “Space Sciences”.
The Institute runs a dedicated computer lab for teaching and is well equipped with appropriate hardware (e.g., digital photogrammetric workstations, analytical stereoplotter, and analog and digital camera equipment for terrestrial photogrammetry) and software (e.g., Erdas Imagine and ArcInfo) to carry out application oriented projects and research work.
